Codeswitch
Codeswitch
Codeswitch is an inter-computer feedback system that I built with Scott Cazan during the spring of 2009. The piece is constructed using two pitch tracking systems, one built in Reaktor and the other built in Super Collider. These two systems pitch track each other forever, constantly converting control data into audio and back again.
Codeswitch can be infinitely long and Scott and I often listen to it for hours at a time. Every time we run it the system behaves a little differently, especially since we are always trying to tweak and improve it. For this reason I’ve included two versions of Codeswitch that show some of the system’s range.
The title is in reference to the linguistic term code-switching which, according to the Random House Dictionary, denotes “the alternate use of two or more languages or varieties of language, especially within the same discourse.”
